Morgan Spurlock to Direct The Simpsons Documentary
Well this is exciting news!
Documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me, 30 Days) is set to produce and direct a made-for-TV documentary special on The Simpsons.
The special will air on January 14th, 2010 and will examine the cultural impact of the show. It’ll be interesting to see what Spurlock does with the special. He’s usually known for getting right in there and putting himself at the center of his films. (So does this mean at some point he’ll be covered in yellow body paint?) In any case, it could be good.
The Simpsons is now the longest running comedy in television history, and a lot of people have fallen out of love with it over the last few seasons (I still maintain that the Conan O’Brien years were the best), but its influence and impact on American pop culture has been massive.
Spurlock was quoted as saying “When they first called me about this, I thought it was a prank and I hung up. And then my agent called back and said, ‘No, no, this is for real,’ at which point I fainted. Then when I woke up, I called everyone I knew because it was the coolest thing I could ever get to do in my career.”
The special will be titled The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special in 3-D on Ice. (It will be neither in 3-D or on Ice.)
