The Hangover Defeats Up at the Box Office
Thanks to unexpectedly high Sunday numbers, The Hangover came out on top at the box office this weekend with $45 million. Disney/Pixar’s Up came in just behind with $44.1 million (Variety). In the Sunday estimates everyone was reporting that Up was going to hold on to first place, but much to everyone’s surprise, The Hangover had a huge showing on Sunday. Ladies and gentlemen, the first bona fide comedic hit of the summer.
Speaking of The Hangover, Todd Phillips told Coming Soon that “Stu’s Song” was actually not originally in the script. Apparently Ed Helms took to playing the piano between takes and Phillips had the crafty idea of having Helms write a song for the part in the movie where the guys are waiting around for the tiger to pass out. The result? ‘What do Tigers Dream Of’.
